Resolved Question: Is Palmdale/Lancaster/Quartz Hill a safe place to live?

Depending on a job offer, we are considering moving to the Palmdale CA area. I am really concerned with safety because we have a baby and want to live somewhere where we can feel comfortable going on walks, etc. I have heard that west palmdale is the more upscale neighborhood but want to confirm this. I need to know areas to avoid and the best areas. Are there bad drug and gang issues? I have heard yes from some people and no from some people. Any advice would be great as if we do move there it will be long term and we need somewhere family safe with safe neighborhoods and good schools.
